Looking for where Fuzz and Overdrive are in perfect union? The T-Rex Mudhoney Overdrive! Bought on a whim from the used section of a ma and pa store, I was pleasantly surprised at the sounds that this golden pedal could produce. There’s no going back either because you will not find it anywhere else in overdrives as of late.
Like the 90’s band? Yes, yes…like the 90’s band.
It’s a solid pedal, and when stacked alongside of it’s sister, the Alberta (TS9-like), this combo covers all of the paces of rock guitar. T-Rex Effects has had a great run of pedals in this past decade, developing their line to include modulation, delay, and tuning effects as well. You’ll even find their new Replicator Tape delay to be an old standard, yet outfitted with new machinery. They do it right!
The casing is solid enough, the chicken head knobs feel a bit wiggly, very little resistance is felt when turning. The small switch that engages a second stage of overdrive feels chincy, as if at the right angle it could certainly break easily. Input jacks are solid as all get out.
I cannot help but to compare this pedal to my Vintage Rat from 1994. The Mudhoney can do all the Rat could do, yet with a shade of smoothness draping over the sound, toning down the nasality of the Rat.
We are talking smooth, like Siamese Dream smooth, yet with some mids…I really, really like this pedal with single coils.

Sounds like I’m cork sniffing, but really, it’s an incredible pedal. So much so that I sold my Rat.
