That Octavia, man! From a friendship with the one and only Jimi Hendrix, a pedal launched into stardom: The Roger Mayer Octavia Rocket Series – Octave Effect Pedal
Hendrix had a great friendship with Roger Mayer who answers emails even today about his famous pedals. He made the Octavia first, it must be stated….again and again.
Let’s get to it:
The case of this is directly reminiscent of the Klon in it’s dynamic, original cast-metal design. Of course, the Octavia Rocket came before the Klon Centaur, which borrowed the design of battery compartment from Roger almost directly.
This is a heavy pedal. I get the art of the case, yet it’s kind of a pain to lug around.
Two knobs, one for Volume, the other for Tone. Input and Output. If I dropped this pedal, it would damage the floor. The internal components are fastened by a screw into the case itself. A characteristic “RM” dons the PCB board.
Thin to over-the-top trebly-fuzz…there’s no other way to explain this. Probably my least likes fuzz I’ve played yet. Call me amateurish…yet I much prefer the Way Huge Swollen Pickle.
It’s got the single note singing down to a tee. I mean, there is no getting around the octave fuzz and the stoner-rock vibe that this emits.
Being flipped as I write this. I need to be able to chord with a pedal. hence, the Way Huge in the arsenal.
There is something to be said for the new builders who have built on top of Roger’s incredible and monumental design of the Rocket.
