I like a good tubescreamer-y overdrive as much as the next guy. Yet, in the search for a the holy grail of green cases, I stumbled onto this treasure, the Hermida Audio Red Zendrive!
Sean at Lovepedal and Alf Hermida teamed up a while back in order to create a customer experience like no other. The pedals are made in the USA using circuit boards produced right down the road from the shop. Their customer service is second to none, and the brotherhood surrounding their pedal phenomenon is simply awesome.
Yes it’s red not green, I can see that. The powder coated, semi smooth texture of the case is built to keep the pedal road worthy. A true bypass switch, 4 knobs, side mounted jacks, pretty standard. Most Lovepedal/Hermida Audio pedals have power next to the input jack on the side, this does the same.
One of the buddies from the forum found a butterfly design inadvertently while inspecting the guts of the pedal. Pretty cool! In asking Sean about why there is an absence of internal wiring like in my Lovepedal Eternity Roadhouse Overdrive, they wanted to reduce the potential for interference in the design. Much appreciated, sir!
Open, open, open, zing; just a few words to explain the sound of the Zendrive. The pedal itself is extremely pick sensitive. Just a little digging in and the Dumble quality of the pedal start to shine through. As this is the high gain version of the original Zendrive, the “Old School thru-hole, film cap, carbon 1/4 watt resistor” is working for me. I believe the hype, because I hear the hype screaming from this pedal. It stacks well with other pedals, like the Lovepedal Purple Plexi or Klone, adding a color to leads that sustains and sustains. For that matter, this would compliment a Lovepedal Eternity Burst Overdrive and a Lovepedal Hermida EPH3 Tape delay quite nicely!
The gain is not fizzy, but adds the grittiness that a TS-type is missing. Watch out, however, because this pedal demands accuracy from your playing. It will cause you to work harder to make it sing. In my opinion this is a characteristic that I wish all gear possessed.
This pedal is an outstanding, outstanding example of what a lead pedal should be. Add a TRex Quint Octave pedal for some incredible lead tones.

If I were you, I’d run, not walk to lovepedal.com and pick one up today. Just because you deserve it.
