Genesis 44 Soap Bible Study
Scripture: Genesis 44
12 Then the steward proceeded to search, beginning with the oldest and ending with the youngest. And the cup was found in Benjamin’s sack. 13 At this, they tore their clothes. Then they all loaded their donkeys and returned to the city.
18 Then Judah went up to him and said: “Pardon your servant, my lord, let me speak a word to my lord. Do not be angry with your servant, though you are equal to Pharaoh himself.
33 “Now then, please let your servant remain here as my lord’s slave in place of the boy, and let the boy return with his brothers. 34 How can I go back to my father if the boy is not with me? No! Do not let me see the misery that would come on my father.”
As orchestrator, Joseph’s plan was running perfectly. His brothers were greatly hurt as the silver cup is found in Benjamin’s bag. (Joseph’s brother)
Judah then recounts the story of how they had returned to Joseph seeking more help for more food. Simeon must be one sad guy at this point, left behind, forgotten!
Judah makes good on his promise to his father. He promised his own life and service in the place of his brother, Benjamin. His motivation was that his father could not bear the loss.
Setup for our refinement, certain situations bring us to the point of sacrifice and repentance.
These moments are never wasted when we approach them with integrity as Judah did.
God – Thank you for the refining situations that you bless me with. Help me to have integrity as I live for you, and you alone!
