Genesis 40 Soap Bible Study
Scripture: Genesis 40
20 Pharaoh’s birthday came three days later, and he prepared a banquet for all his officials and staff. He summoned his chief cup-bearer and chief baker to join the other officials. 21 He then restored the chief cup-bearer to his former position, so he could again hand Pharaoh his cup. 22 But Pharaoh impaled the chief baker, just as Joseph had predicted when he interpreted his dream. 23 Pharaoh’s chief cup-bearer, however, forgot all about Joseph, never giving him another thought.
The offense that led to the jailing of the baker and cup-bearer has not been revealed to us, and possibly it was the Pharaoh’s preference that brought them to sharing a cell with Joseph.
These dreams told of the future of things to come. In fact, Joseph always shared the future.
‘Not very good news’ for the baker, and great news for the cup-bearer (who was forgetful)!
For the record, both people were in highly trusted positions in the kingdom. One made the king’s food, and the other prepared alot more, including bearing the occasional drinking cup.
What does the future hold? Whether it be fortune or destruction, God knows.
Staying true to our innocence that God has gifted us with is the goal, even if that same behavior lands us in jail with Egypt’s finest.
God will take care of the rest!
God – help me to trust you again with everything, knowing that you bring those of integrity to the surface for a breath of fresh air.
