Genesis 39 Soap Bible Study
Scripture: Genesis 39
20 Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined. But while Joseph was there in the prison, 21 the LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. 22 So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. 23 The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.
Joseph, no matter the situation, was following the direction of God. He served both Potiphar and the Prison warden faithfully, and rose to the top quite quickly in each instance…as a slave/foreigner!
Even in the face of temptation, he retains his composure…even avoiding the possible temptation of saying ‘hrello’ to Potiphar’s wife.
In a word: integrity.
Integrity is the word that describes the difference in metals, construction, and character.
Avoiding those temptations that may draw you away from obedience to God is a great course of action. It might land you in jail, but as we already know from the end of the story, God has his way of making cream rise to the top (Dr. Meyer)!
God, help me to trust you in avoiding potentially damaging situations. As I serve, let all I place my hands on hold your favor.
