My list of strat upgrades is extensive, yet this is the mojo mod I’ve been jonesing for. A new Bone Nut Replacement!
Disclaimer: Lars also adjusted the neck to straighten the bow I had grown accustomed to…Thank God for luthiers who know their stuff.
My buddy Lars at Rasmussen Guitars threw in a bone nut, replacing the molded plastic one. For cost and reliability reasons, Fender uses a plastic nut instead of bone. Bone has fissures, density variations, and…..GREAT TONE! A Bone Nut Replacement!
Some say it might crack after a couple of months, I doubt that happen if your luthier knows their bone material. Lars held the bone up to the light to check for any potential fractures and after finding a continuously solid blank, he started cutting, filing and shaping my bone nut replacement.
I am loving the feel of my guitar. Plus, When checking nut blanks, be it for a Stratocaster, Les Paul, Tele, acoustic, etc., a good luthier will check the product by holding it up to the light and looking for inconsistencies.
My Classic Vibe Tele now has this mod done to it, and it honestly sings. Sings, I tell you! And both strats have gotten this treatment as well.
The sum of the parts is where tone can be found. Sustain, vibration, wood, steel…all is related when it comes to tone. If you have the means, do this mod, you will not be sorry. Especially if you practice playing electric guitar “acoustically”, as in unplugged so as not to disturb family members who need to sleep. 🙂
If in the Stockholm area, and have any guitar issues, acoustic or electric, call Lars! The LP is next (done)!
